2016 Maize Maze - "Amazing Iowa Barns!"

    Fayette County Conservation is once again hosting the Maize Maze, now in its 17th Year!


This years theme is
"Amazing Iowa Barns!"

    The theme is “Amazing Iowa Barns” and will promote and tell the story of barns in Iowa and their importance to agriculture since farming was started by our ancestors in the 1800”s.

    The maze was designed by Lavern Swenson.

    The Maize Maze location offers all ages an opportunity to learn about the history of the local area and its agricultural roots.

    The Maize Maze represents the four counties of Northeast Iowa that make up the Country Heritage Community (CHC) = Fayette, Allamakee, Clayton, and Winneshiek.

    Country Heritage Community (CHC's) Maize Maze is located at the Gilbertson Conservation Education Area, just east of Elgin on Agate Road or County B64

Location:
Maize Maze - Across from the Gilbertson Nature Center located at 22580 A Ave., Elgin, Iowa 52141.

Go out of Elgin, Iowa on County Road B64 or Agate Road like you are going to Gunder, Iowa, turn left onto A Ave. and the Maize Maze will be on your left as you go around the corner.  Follow the road until you find the maize maze parking area entrance or park in the Gilbertson Nature Center parking lot which is on the right side of the road across from the maize maze.

Fun Event happening on the opening weekend only!
    Free ice cream, donated by Clayton County dairy promotion board will be available Saturday, August 1st and Sunday, August 2.
